Nga Tapuhi Whakawhanau was formed in Feb 1997 by Kuki and Ngarangi, with the aim of providing midwifery care through pregnancy, birth and postnatally for Maori and Pacific women in the greater Wellington and Porirua areas. We share similar views and beliefs about birth.  We have a commitment to our group practice where we work as a team enabling us to have the recommended time off.

We are all members of the New Zealand College of Midwives whose standards of practice guide our work.

Ngarangi Pritchard is a registered midwife, registered comprehensive nurse and an enrolled nurse.

Services

• We look after women through pregnancy testing referrals for lab tests and scans.
• Antenatal care consists of:
  • Monthly visits until 30-32 weeks
  • Fortnightly visits up to 36 weeks (you will need to come to our clinic in Newtown for these)
  • Weekly until your baby is born
• Postnatal care: We also look after women up to 4 weeks after the baby is born.  We then refer you onto either Tamariki Ora or a Well Child Health provider of your choice.
