OUR SOCIETY

Alzheimers New Zealand Incorporated is a charitable organisation with 23 Alzheimers member organisations located throughout the country.

Alzheimers New Zealand supports the work of the member organisations and at a national level represents people with dementia, their carers and families, through advocacy, raising public awareness and providing information.

The society's mission is to make life better for all people affected by dementia.

DEMENTIA

Dementia affects 7 per cent of people over the age of 65 and 20 per cent of those over the age of 80. Alzheimer's disease is the most common form of dementia. At present there is no way to prevent the onset of Alzheimer's disease and no cure.

Alzheimers New Zealand

  • advocates for people with dementia and their caregivers 
  • provides educational resources 
  • raises community awareness 
  • publishes a quarterly newsletters - Alzheimers News

FUNDING

Alzheimers New Zealand and its member organisations rely on support from public donations, bequests and funding from charitable bodies such as the Lottery Grants board. Our nationwide awareness appeal week is held in the last week of July.
