Bipolar Support Canterbury
OUR SOCIETY
Bipolar Support Canterbury (formerly the Manic Depressive Society) is an independent, voluntary, self-help group comprising people with bipolar affective disorder and their relatives.
Established in 1982 with the aims of support and education, the Society continues to offer support and information to any enquirer using a variety of resources, many of which we ourselves produce.
We are based within the Mental Health Education and Resource Centre in central Christchurch. Our current financial membership stands at 123.
All the office holders of the committee are all people affected by bipolar disorder.
WHAT WE DO
Produce and distribute information (booklets, leaflets and videos) about bipolar disorders. These are distributed widely through primary and secondary health services, Citizen's Advice Bureau, public libraries and secondary schools.
Make submissions or representations on local or national health policy issues on behalf of people with manic depression.
In Christchurch we run four support groups, as well as education courses for people affected by manic depression.
