About Kathy Fray
Kathy chose to become a midwife due to an immense appreciation of how incredibly essential it is for a childbearing woman to have access to the presence of a caring, empathetic, holistic and technically skilled midwife, in a relationship based on partnership. The birth of every human is a sacred moment of time, and so I feel immensely honoured and privileged every time I am able to assist with a newborn’s safe arrival.

My practice encourages a healthy pregnancy and natural birth, particularly referring clients to naturopathic complementary therapies and practitioners, including homeopathy, herbal therapy, aromatherapy, hydrotherapy and acupuncture.

I registered as a Direct Entry Midwife in 2008 and live in Hatfields Beach, Orewa with my three wonderful children and eco-biobuilder husband. My main hobby is hatha yoga. My own childbirth experiences inspired me to join the maternity profession, and in 2005 my first book was published “OH BABY…Birth, Babies & Motherhood Uncensored” (now in its 6th imprint). Then when my children were a little older, I was able to complete formal midwifery training, and in 2010 my second book was published "OH GROW UP...Toddlers to PreTeens Decoded". I am also the weekly parenting columnist for Woman's Day magazine.

I look after women living between the northern North Shore to southern Warkworth, birthing at North Shore Hospital and the Warkworth Birth Centre. I aim to case-load independently around 50 women annually, providing antenatal, childbirth and postnatal lead maternity care:

• antenatal: appointments at MotherWise Midwifery clinics in Orewa and Bays-Glenfield
• childbirth: Warkworth Birthing Centre or North Shore Hospital
• postnatal: birth centre/hospital/home visits until five to six weeks postnatal.
