Guillain-Barre Syndrome Support Group NZ Trust
OUR MISSION
"No one need endure this syndrome alone or uninformed."
OUR ORGANISATION
The GBS Support Group is a network of people (and their carers and relatives) who have suffered from, or have been associated with, the condition. Since 1997 we have been incorporated as a Charitable Trust and have a Board of Trustees. Our Patron is Mrs Steve Chadwick, MP for Rotorua, whose sister has GBS.
We have a current financial membership of about 150 and our quarterly newsletter is circulated free of charge to some 500 sufferers and their families.
OUR WORK
Our primary aim is to provide information and support to GBS patients, their carers and families by means of pamphlets, our website at www.gbsnz.org.nz and, of course, by personal contacts through our network of GBSers throughout the country.
We are supported by a medical panel of GBS medical specialists who are able to support and supplement the relationship between the patient and his or her doctor.
We encourage exchange of experiences between members and hold a biennial conference to provide an opportunity for members to hear about the latest advances in diagnosis, treatment and recovery from GBS and its variants of CIDP, Miller Fisher etc, and to provide a forum for face to face exchange of experiences and ideas. The next conference will be held in Wellington in April 2007.
