WHO WE ARE

Allergy New Zealand is a national group which aims to assist individuals and families who need to cope with allergies and related illnesses.

The majority of our members either suffer from allergies themselves or are parents of children with allergy, including eczema, asthma, allergic rhinitis, and food allergies. Things that other children and families take for granted are often off-limits for allergic children, especially for those with food allergy. Food allergies are often misunderstood and often viewed with suspicion. Symptoms are at worst life-threatening and at least frustrating, emotionally exhausting and draining. Simple, day-to-day tasks are suddenly a nightmare. Learning to recognise safe foods and deceptive ingredients labels, learning assertiveness with other people, learning to cook without dairy, eggs or wheat - these are the reasons why Allergy New Zealand exists.

We try to help preventing allergies where possible and limit the effect of allergy. People with (food) allergies desperately need support, help and information.

You are not alone - there are so many people out there coping with an allergy just as you do. Our members a greatly increasing every year. For them it is a great relief to have a contact to turn to for any queries. Learn more about your allergy, get lots of information, good advice and emotional support and also receive our magazine four times per year - all for a small annual fee of $25.

NATIONAL SUPPORT NETWORK

Our national support network comprises a team of dedicated volunteers with a common interest in allergy. They will not have all the answers to your queries and their experience of allergy may be totally different to that of your own circumstances. Our volunteers can assist you with local service information and provide general information about allergy and related conditions.

They are not medically qualified so if you require specific advice about your, or your child's condition, please consult your general practitioner, allergy specialist or dietitian.
