WHO WE ARE
Diabetes Auckland, part of Diabetes New Zealand, is the leading Charity providing help, guidance and services to those affected by Diabetes. Diabetes Auckland is an incorporated society with premises at 62-64 Valley Road, Mt Eden, Auckland, employing 13 staff, assisted by over 100 volunteers. An elected Council oversees the governance operation whilst a capable management team attends to the day-to-day operations.
Their mission is to improve the lives of people with diabetes and to work towards a future without diabetes. They offer education courses for newly-diagnosed, a help-line, support groups and a quarterly magazine. An information centre and one-stop shop for necessary diabetic products is available. The organisation advocates for all people affected by diabetes, runs regular programmes in schools and the community to prevent diabetes and to build awareness of the condition so the condition’s effects can be managed successfully over the long term.
WE ARE PART OF DIABETES NEW ZEALAND
Diabetes New Zealand Inc. (DNZ) is a nationwide, non-governmental, non-profit organisation, which is an Incorporated Society. Established in February 1962, the aim of the organisation is to support its 13,500 members, 36 societies (including Diabetes Auckland), as well as health professionals involved with diabetes.
Diabetes New Zealand:
- Advocates on issues affecting all people with diabetes
- Develops and distributes educational resources for the prevention and management of diabetes
- Raises the level of awareness of diabetes, especially concerning lifestyles that reduce the incidence of Type 2 diabetes
- Enables people with diabetes to choose healthy lifestyles and manage their diabetes appropriately
- Funds and supports research into the treatment, prevention and cure of diabetes
