Carers New Zealand

Over 750,000 New Zealanders provide at-home care for sick, injured, frail and disabled family members. Some are carers for a short time - many for a lifetime. This unpaid work saves the country billions.

OUR GROUP

Carers New Zealand was created by carers for carers, to guide them to sources of help and to give them a forum where they can share their experiences and communicate with each other.

We have grown from the grassroots, having built partnerships with carers across the country, and with the many service providers and support organisations who assist carers in various ways.

Our website www.carers.net.nz has been developed by Carers New Zealand as part of a suite of new disability services funded by the Ministry of Health. The Family/Whanau Carers Programme is an outcome of the Government's new Disability Strategy, formally recognising the importance of family involvement in the care of people with disabilities.

WHAT WE AIM TO PROVIDE

Often, carers find out about resources of help 'through the grapevine'. Unfortunately, the grapevine isn't always the most efficient way to inform carers about products, services, and organisations that can save them time and worry - and make their role easier. So our aim is to replace the grapevine with our website.

Our free membership means you'll receive our Caring Times magazine, Alert bulletins and other publications and resources. Once fully developed our website will also provide:

  • News
  • Research
  • Resource library
  • Helpful links
  • NZ service locators
  • Recognition awards
  • Carer classifieds
  • Home care shopping
  • E-mail hotline
  • Online communities, chat and discussions
