Heart Foundation of New Zealand (National)
OUR ORGANISATION
The National Heart Foundation is the not-for-profit, non-government organisation dedicated to the heart health of New Zealanders. We aim to promote good health for all and reduce suffering and early death from heart and blood vessel diseases.
We advance our aims through three key areas:
- Health promotion programmes in schools, workplaces and the community
- Funding heart research
- Heart care programmes to help people at high risk and those with heart disease in their rehabilitation.
- Since the establishment of the Foundation in 1968, heart and blood vessel diseases have dropped and are now affecting an older age group, but the rates remain high. They account for about 41% of all deaths annually.
HEART HEALTH MESSAGE
Our heart-health message is direct and effective:
- enjoy a healthy diet, low in saturated (animal) fats and high in fruit and vegetables
- be physically active
- be smokefree
- check your blood pressure regularly and talk to your doctor if you have other risk factors such as high blood cholesterol or diabetes.
OUR RESOURCES
We produce a range of resources including health information brochures and cookbooks to help you and your family to live a healthy life. We also have provide information to health professionals to keep them up-to-date and assist them in their roles. YOUR SUPPORT
The Foundation relies almost entirely on the generosity of New Zealanders like you to fund its work. We receive limited support from the Government for specific projects but most of our funding is from our own fundraising initiatives and donations. You can support our work through a donation or you may consider a gift that will live on for future generations - through a legacy or bequest to the Foundation.
