OUR GROUP
Parent to Parent New Zealand is a national organisation working with families and children affected by disabilities, health impairments, rare syndromes, and special needs. Parent to Parent currently has contacts available for over 1000 different disabilities and information relating to over 2150 disorders. Support groups both in New Zealand and overseas are listed for over 3600 conditions. There are 10 groups throughout New Zealand.
OUR SERVICES
Parent to Parent helps by:
- providing information, advice, and support to families
- linking families with other families affected by the same condition
- providing parents with information regarding national and international support groups for their child's disability or condition
- providing international links to other families, especially in relation to rare disabilities or conditions
- training programmes for parents and family/whanau carers
- support for children who have brothers and sisters with disabilities
- providing information to the health, social care and education professions.
The service provided to families is free and confidential. Caring for a family member who has a special need is an experience that few parents anticipate or plan for, and one that can bring strong emotional responses and challenges in day to day living.
For thousands of New Zealand families the struggle to meet these challenges is a reality. Often families have to face them without adequate information or support leaving them feeling isolated and overwhelmed.
