As Nga Maia: midwives and women...

We recognise the birth of a child is a magical and special time for you and your whanau (family) where life becomes charged - with the Mana and the Power of Spirit. We know the importance of the birth process not only for you but also for your baby. We are aware of the sensitive beings that they are and with deep respect welcome them into the family they have chosen. We provide excellent care, awhi, and support for women and babies with comprehensive equipment for home births and Te Wharekohanga births. We are SmokeFree Midwives.

We are members of the:

• New Zealand College of Midwives
• Nga Maia O Aotearoa me Te Waipounamu

We abide by their Standards of Practice.
We are committed to supporting Nga Maia/Student Midwives.
We are actively participating in Tikanga Maori on request.
We have a weekly peer review.
We have a review process for our practice.

• competent pregnancy care - including all necessary tests and checks free of charge
• continuity of midwifery care with 24 hour care
• safety and a high standard of care
• reclaiming Traditional Birthing Practices
• frequent visits to you and your baby in the early post natal weeks
• giving support breast feeding and advice for new parenthood
• we work in partnership with you, your Tane (partner) and whanau (family)
• we respect you, your hopes and fears, your expectations for your birth and the time after birth
• we encourage you to be empowered and to take resopnsibility for your own care as well
• we refer for consultation with an obstetrician if specialist care is required.

We offer pool births. We offer herbal support.
