Philosophy

• I have a strong belief in midwifery and childbirth research and evidenced based practice.  I really enjoy sharing information with women and their families to ensure they are as well prepared as possible for a positive childbirth experience.
• My aim is to work in partnership to enable trust, shared decisions, shared responsibility, and a mutual understanding and respect for each woman’s choices about her pregnancy, labour, birth and parenting.

Services

• I am a Tauranga midwife covering Te Puna to Te Puke; out to Pyes Pa and the Kaimai ranges, into central Tauranga suburbs, and along the coastal strip from Mount Beach to Papamoa.
• Midwifery services I provide, cover the full spectrum from booked caesarean births at Tauranga Hospital to safe home births.
• I feel privileged to be able to assist and share in the pregnancy, birth and first six weeks of parenting experience of each family and their new baby.  This includes clinic, home, and hospital visits.
• By working closely with our Tauranga hospital specialists and community services, my aim is to ensure all women and their babies receive treatment of the highest standard.
• My midwifery care is completed by ensuring a smooth transition for Mums and babies to Wellchild, Plunket, and Family Doctor care around six weeks after birth.

Background

• As I am studying part-time towards a Masters of Midwifery, I limit my caseload to ensure I am able to continue to offer the best midwifery care possible.
• I am very fortunate to have experienced nurse-midwives and a Family Doctor for back up support.
• I became a Registered Nurse in 1982 (working in Neonatal Intensive Care and Paediatrics), and a Registered Midwife in 1986. I have a Plunket certificate and am an experienced International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (Breastfeeding Specialist). In addition I have a BA from Massey University and Post Graduate Diploma in Midwifery from Victoria University.
• Special interests include breastfeeding and parent education.
