Women's Health Action

WHO WE ARE

Women's Health Action is a community-based advocacy group which provides health information and educational services for women. The group was founded in 1984 by health activists Sandra Coney and Phillida Bunkle to coordinate claims for women injured by the Dalkon Shield IUD. Three years later the founders published the article that led to the Cervical Cancer Inquiry at which the group represented consumers. Since that time the group has had a particular interest in patients' rights and health ethics.

OUR WORK

The group produces quality information for women and will search out information to meet specific needs. Regular workshops, meetings and seminars are held on topics such as menopause, breast screening and pre-menstrual syndrome.
Two regular newsletters are produced. Women's Health Watch covers the latest in research findings, legal matters and women's health politics, while Women's Health Update provides news of policy developments.

As advocates Women's Health Action lobbies government and providers of health services to ensure women's needs are met and women have a voice in decisions being made in the health sector.
