WHO WE ARE
Parents Centres New Zealand is a nationwide, voluntary organisation set up by parents for parents in 1952 with 58 Centres throughout New Zealand.
OUR MISSION
Positive birth experiences and informed parenting in a community where parents are supported and highly valued in their role.
OUR SERVICES
- Childbirth education which covers the physical, emotional and psychological aspects of childbirth. Classes in some areas are free.
- Early Pregnancy
- Childbirth Education Refresher
- Parent support groups in the community, including:
- postnatal support
- breastfeeding support, exercise classes, infant massage
- caesarean birth, miscarriage support
- neighbourhood playgroups, with some Father's playgroups.
- Parent education in a wide range of topics covering:
- parenting of toddlers
- preschoolers
- primary school age children.
- Children's courses: Gym, Water Skills, Music & Movement
- Advocacy/lobbying for parenting, birthing and families.
MEMBERSHIP
Membership is by subscription and offers:
- Parent education at reduced rates
- Kiwi Parent magazine (six times a year) covering a wide range of birthing, parenting and family issues.
- A comprehensive skills training programme for volunteers eg leadership, human relationships, group processes, management and personal growth.
- Libraries - parenting & children's books, toys
- Car seat rental
- Member discounts to local shops
