The National Poisons Centre is a service unit within the Department of Preventive and Social Medicine at the Dunedin School of Medicine, University of Otago.
The Centre answers enquiries both from health professionals and the general public concerning acute poisoning and the toxic effects of chemicals, which may be encountered in emergencies of any sort. This service operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The centre receives about 32,000 enquiries per year.
