Public Health plays a major role in supporting and strengthening healthy communities. Our service includes information, education, advocacy, control and enforcement of safe practices, investigating health hazards, health complaints and aligning the health services towards prevention and promotion.
We work within the framework of the Treaty of Waitangi, and the Ottawa Charter. Priority populations are Maori, Pacific peoples, low income families, migrants and other groups with high health needs. We want to achieve equity in health.
The Auckland Regional Public Health Service covers an area from Kaiwaka in the north to Mercer in the south and includes the Hauraki Gulf.
Maori and Pacific Island staff work within integrated teams to deliver services to their communities. We work to strengthen partnerships and provide culturally appropriate services.
