My philosophy

For me midwifery is about working with the mother, and those who are important to her, to achieve a positive experience during pregnancy and childbirth.  I see my role as a facilitator helping the woman work through the broad range of issues that influence the health and well being of mother and baby.  Fundamental to my practice is an underpinning respect for different cultures and values, which I see as essential in today’s multi-cultural society.

I am a midwife working in Tauranga and the surrounding area. Before moving to New Zealand I lived in England where I worked for many years as a nurse, then as a midwife. I have a broad experience in all aspects of maternity care and am able to offer both hospital and home birth options. My qualifications include Diploma’s in Nursing and Midwifery, as well as a BSc (Hons) Degree.

• Since arriving in New Zealand I have worked at Waikato Women’s Hospital and Tauranga Maternity Hospital
•  I have a good support network
• Locum midwifery cover is provided by two experienced local midwives Anne Sharplin and Sue Drummond.
