Philosophy
Birth is a normal physiological process perfectly designed by nature for women to bring their babies into the world. Childbirth is an instinctual, primal experience with its own rhythms and the process works best with as little as possible interference. Birthing women need to be supported to have as much control over their care and should be encouraged to be active participants in self-care and informed decision-making. Women who take responsibility for their births under their own power and strength emerge from the experience empowered. I believe that birthing at home or in a birth centre is the safest option for well women. I am passionate about healthcare, women's health, pregnancy and childbirth.
My holistic approach to your care combined with partnership, honesty and trust can help you achieve a positive and rewarding birth experience. Continuity of care with your midwife is one way to achieve this during your pregnancy, birthing and postnatal time with your new baby. I believe that breast milk is the perfect food for your baby and will ensure that you are supported to breastfeed your baby.
I support women to achieve a natural birth by utilising many non-pharmaceutical methods of pain management such as the use of herbal medicine, water, massage, hot and cold packs, aromatherapy, homeopathy, relaxation and encouragement.
I practice under the code of ethics and standards for practice of the New Zealand College of Midwives, of which I am a member. I am also part of the Waikato Home Birth Midwives Collective and supported by my colleagues.
